There have been at least two violent incidents at the Centro Bus Hub in downtown Syracuse recently, plus a fight among girls caught on camera. On Monday a man was hit in the head with a bottle. On Friday, a teenager was stabbed in a gang attack. Those violent incidents beg the question: is the major bus stop safe? On Monday evening, a CBS 5 camera captured a girl fight at the bus stop. The group of girls was going at each other at the height of the evening rush hour. That's when some of the largest crowds can be found at the downtown Syracuse bus transfer station. And people tell us this kind of fighting happens all the time. I person says, “I saw people getting beat up, getting mugged.” Within minutes, Syracuse police officers showed up at the fight. Some people told us they believe there should be more security down here, at the corner of Salina and Fayette. Others say the Centro Bus Company should move its hub. The man who runs Centro wants to move. Frank Kobliski says they've been working on that for the better part of a decade. They settled on a site at the corner of Adams and Salina, where the Red Cross blood donation center sits. The problem is the owner of the site doesn't want to sell, so they're in the process of using eminent domain to move him out. Kobliski says, “This will be a piece of property that would be exclusively under our control. We can have appropriate security, whether it's the sheriff's or city police.”
